For me Menelaus is the nobler man, because he is not a coward like Paris. Menelaus did it for his wife. He wants to redeem his wife because Helen was stolen by Paris. Menelaus is not afraid of who he fights because he is brave. He is noble because he fights with a reason and he never took advantage when an enemy is injured. However, Paris is a coward because he is scared to fight and because he fights dirty. He stole Menelaus’ wife Helen. In the book said that when Menelaus had challenged the Achaeans to fight one on one with him, Paris was worried that he will fight him, but after Hector insulting him Paris had no choice but to battle Menelaus. The fight is for the peace between Trojans and Achaeans by deciding once and for all which man shall have Helen as his wife. Menelaus accepted the conditions, because both of the armies wanted to end the war.
As they prepare for the battle, Iris disguised herself as Hector’s sister Laodice, and visits Helen in the Priam’s place. Iris wants Helen to watch the battle between the two Paris, and Menelaus. When Paris and Menelaus are ready they started the battle. Neither of the two won’t give up the fight, but when Menelaus broke his sword on Paris’ helmet he dragged Paris through the dirt. While dragging Paris the goddess Aphrodite snaps the strap on Paris’ helmet saving his life. Menelaus is very angry after that and get his spear and he is about to end the fight by driving the spear into Paris, when Aphrodite interfere again and take Paris away along with Helen to his room in Priam’s Place. On the battlefield Menelaus is finding Paris because he is gone. Agamemnon insists that Menelaus won and he demands Helen back.
Today I see me as the modern day Menelaus, because I am not a coward and I always fight for justice. I fight for what is right. And I don’t give up until I won the fight.
